Adjustable Bed Information for
OTs and Carers

Improve your clients safety, mobility and independence with our Better Living Australia stylish adjustable bed systems, designed to make it easier for you to support your clients health needs while allowing them top quality of life.

Better Living Australia’s adjustable bed systems provide a deeper, more restorative sleep, while providing a range of sleeping and rest positions for people who suffer spinal injuries, chronic pain, respiratory conditions and more.

Our beds are a Therapeutic Goods Administration registered medical device, and we are NDIS registered providers to make sure your clients have the highest quality product for their personal needs.

Unlimited Options to Relieve Stress and Pain

Using a wireless remote control, our adjustable beds offer a variety of positions to find a rest or sleeping position that suits your clients' individual needs and helps them to transfer in and out of bed with ease.

Our beds also offer a ‘Zero Gravity’ sleeping position, which elevates the head and raises their feet slightly higher than the heart, relieving stress on the body by evenly distributing your weight.

The health benefits of the ‘Zero Gravity’ position include relief from back and sciatica pain, fluid build-up in swollen feet and legs, arthritis, fibromyalgia and muscle pain, breathing problems such as asthma, while increasing flexibility and mobility.

Building Muscle Strength with Whole-Body Massage

Our Therapeutic Sleep Systems (TSS) come with a whole body vibration therapy massage function that offers different modes and speeds with a 10, 20 or 30 minute timer to ease your clients pain with a gentle massage.

The vibration transmits energy and signals into their tendons, tissues and muscles making them contract and relax dozens of times every second. Over time, this improves muscle strength, balance and bone density, and can reduce pain associated with arthritis, osteoporosis and fibromyalgia.

Supportive, Hygienic Mattresses

Our adjustable bed systems are all delivered with our successfully designed Pure Fusion Mattress, which has been proven to provide superior back support and spinal alignment from our customers. We are so proud of our engineering that the Pure Fusion Mattress is a core part of Better Living Australia's DNA - meaning that you won't find it anywhere else.

The mattress moulds to your clients’ body so they can find a position that reduces pressure on their joints and improves their blood flow.

Our dust-mite resistant mattress covers are made with breathable, hypoallergenic bamboo blend fabric that’s perfect for sleeping in any climate, making sure that your clients' beds remain as hygienic as possible.

Built for Modern-Day Living

Our beds also include features to help with regular modern-day living, including USB ports to charge mobile phones and other tech, wireless remotes and optional bluetooth control using a smartphone, under bed lighting, adjustable bed legs, pre-set memory functions to save your clients' favourite rest and sleep positions.

We want to help as many people as possible sleep better and live better. Talk to our expert staff about how we can support you and your clients today.

FAQ

I'm just starting my NDIS application, how long will it take for approval?

It really depends on how prepared you are with the documentation that is required by NDIS. We are advised that the NDIS aims to approve your first plan within 70 days after you become a participant, however it could take longer if you are not prepared.

How do you receive payment once it is approved by the NDIS?

Once your plan has been approved, your Case Manager will transfer the money for the adjustable bed directly to Better Living Australia, once we have received the payment, we will arrange for delivery.

What do I need to qualify for the NDIS?

To qualify for the NDIS you need to have a permanent disability that significantly affects your ability to take part in everyday activities. You also need to be aged under 65 when you first apply to access the NDIS and you need to live in Australia and as an Australian citizen or hold a permanent Visa or hold a Protected Special Category Visa. To receive funding for an adjustable bed, it is important that you have Assisted Technology included in your package.

I'm over 65, can I get NDIS?

You must be under 65 to access the NDIS. However, you may be able to access other funding support or assistance through aged care options.

Are you a registered NDIS provider?

Yes, we are a registered provider with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), and our beds are registered with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

Do you deal with self managed funding or only through a plan manager?

We can deal with either. Generally you (the customer) will arrange the type that suits you. Normally you will have a case or plan manager who will assist you in the process.

Can Better Living Australia provide me with a quote?

We can provide you with a quote including the details of your Occupational Therapist, Care Provider or Case Managers. You will need to share your quote with your healthcare professionals. Should your care provider require further information, they are welcome to contact us.

Will the Hi-Lo Adjustable Massage Bed fit into my existing bed frame?

Unfortunately as the bed raises and lowers, it must be free standing without a bed surround. The bed is on castors so can be freely moved around the room to assist with cleaning etc.

Are adjustable bases strong enough to support me?

Better Living bases have a weight rating for 240 kg and are solid steel construction with a 10yr warranty.

What sizes do the Hi-Lo beds come in?

The great thing about our range of premium adjustable beds is, one size does not fit all! Standard Sizes including;
Adult Single (91cm W x 203cm L x 45-100cm H)
King Single (99cm W x 203cm L x 45-100cm H)
Double (138cm W x 203cm L x 45-100cm H)

How high and low can my Hi-Lo adjustable base go?

The lowest height of the bed will be approximately 45cm from the ground and the highest approximately 100cm. This is easily adjusted with the wireless remote.

What health problems do adjustable beds relieve and how?

Back pain

People with back pain are advised to use adjustable beds. A flatbed may not provide the proper support for the spinal cord, resulting in excess back pain and restless sleep. Inclining the bed at 45 degrees provides relief for the lower back. Raising the foot of the bed means that your legs are raised and knees are slightly bent, relieving even more pressure on the spine.

Acid reflux and heartburn

Those suffering from acidity, benefit from having their upper body elevated 6 to 8 inches. This helps the stomach to retain the acids. On a flatbed, acid moves to the esophagus leading to episodes of acid reflux or heartburn.

Asthma and improving breathing for maximum lung expansion

A horizontal mattress restricts air tubes and increases the difficulty of moving air to vital major organs. Adjustable beds elevate the upper body, which improves breathing and reduces stress on your heart to deliver oxygen and blood to vital organs. Those suffering from congestion also benefit because an elevated bed keeps your sinus and lungs clear, and keeps fluid and mucus at bay.

Snoring

Commonly, adjusting the upper part of your bed to a higher position reduces or eliminates snoring. While snoring isn’t a serious health issue, snoring can prevent you from reaching a deep restful sleep, known as REM sleep. Snoring can also stop your partner from achieving a restful sleep.

Edema pain due to fluid retention

If you suffer from swollen feet and legs you can experience an enormous amount of pain and discomfort. Sleeping with your legs elevated helps to prevent fluid buildup and reduces pain. Those who have pulmonary edema should sleep with their head and chest elevated. The angle encourages the fluid to travel through the body without gathering in the legs, preventing weight gain and pain.

Sciatica and extreme pain sufferers

Many people prefer to sleep on their side or even their stomachs but the best position for sleep is on your back. Spinal alignment, breathing, pressure points and blood flow is difficult when you sleep on your side. Adjustable beds are able to improve sciatica, spondylolisthesis, spinal stenosis and other spinal issues by providing a comfortable sleeping position that helps with breathing, pressure points and blood flow.

Arthritis

Those experiencing pain from arthritis located in upper body or lower body will benefit from the Adjustable Bed. Individuals with Osteoarthritis in the spinal, or facet joint arthritis, often wake up quite stiff and sore in the morning. Sleeping on an Adjustable Bed may provide better support and therefore decrease the irritation by minimizing joint compression.

Insomnia

Adjustable beds offer many positions so it is easy to find a comfortable position to help you fall asleep faster. Improved blood flow circulation and improved oxygen levels also help you fall asleep and stay asleep.

Is a memory foam mattress good for adjustable beds?

Memory foam mattresses are a great choice for adjustable beds. The foam is flexible enough to bend as needed to accommodate different angles for the head and feet, and the material also contours evenly for added pain and pressure relief.

What is the healthiest sleeping position?

Sleeping on your back offers the most health benefits. It protects your spine, and it can also help relieve hip and knee pain. Sleeping on your back uses gravity to keep your body in an even alignment over your spine. This can help reduce any unnecessary pressure on your back or joints.

Sleeping Information and Advice for OTs and Carers

Memory foam was initially designed by NASA over 50 years ago. It was designed for seating in space crafts so that the astronauts would be comfortable and safe. Due to its durability, comfort and excellent pressure relief, memory foam is now used widely, particularly for mattresses and bedding.

We're often asked about the differences between hospital beds and adjustable beds. Both bed types have adjustable head and feet ends - but that's where the similarities stop. Here, we explain the key differences.

Customer Reviews
Why did I wait so long?

The beds are very comfortable and easy to use, very relaxing to go to sleep with the aid of massage feature. I suffer from osteo arthritis in both shoulders and lower back pain, I am able to sleep on my back now because I can ease the pain in my back by raising the head and foot of the bed.

Rob ~ April 2022

So happy we made the purchase

We were delighted to come across a Better Living bed display at a local show where we were told that the bed would fit inside our existing frame. We made the decision there and then to purchase the bed. The delivery was so prompt we hardly had time to empty and remove the bladder of our waterbed.

Faysie ~ March 2022

Perfect

The additional body support provided by being able to put our feet up has been SO relaxing and the massage helps us relax and go to sleep quickly after a hard day of farm chores. An added bonus is that both my husband and I can sleep with different adjustments in the same bed

Ruth ~ March 2022

Beyond expectations

I came home after major spinal surgery in the beginning of August 2022. My bed I had at the time was so hard it was impossible for me to sleep on it. The first night out of hospital I had to sleep on the couch with pillows to support me. The next day I called better living - they were amazing. They not only helped me choose my options, they had the bed delivered and installed the same day. I know they worked after hours to help me, and I cannot tell them enough how grateful I am for the excellent service and help they gave me.

Tait ~ September 2022

I should have done this sooner

I am so happy with my new bed! It does exactly what I wanted. The massage feature and being able to adjust the head and feet have helped with my aches and pains from being on my feet all day. I can’t thank Tarina enough. She listened to me and gave me great advice. The bed being endorsed by the TGA meant a lot to me.

Del ~ September 2022

Great service

I'm not one for spending money really (my wife says I'm a tightwad), but six years ago when I first lay on the Better Living Bed, I knew I had to buy one. Well, I can honestly say that I have never regretted once buying our bed. It's just so comfy and inviting that go to bed early now. Thanks, Better Living Beds.

Stephen ~ August 2022

Great investment!

So glad we bought this bed. It's Super comfy and we love all the features. Hubby sleeps much better now as he can elevate his head instead of stacking his pillows which has helped with his snoring so I can also get a better sleep now.

Far North Queensland ~ July 2022

Best bed we have had!

Have had the bed for 4 months now and are sleeping better than ever. The individually adjustable sides have made it easy for us to setup to what suits ourselves and the massage function certanly helps with a better nights sleep. It has been so good we bought one for our caravan.

Greater Melbourne Victoria ~ July 2022

Wonderful bed

The most comfortable bed we’ve bought. Don’t wake up with sore hips and shoulders. Had the bed for approx 6 weeks. Love the massage setting very relaxing looking forward to a lot more good nights on the bed.

Bec ~ May 2022
